Description

The Worldwide Acquisitions Group acquires films during festivals (Sundance, Cannes, Toronto, Tribeca, SXSW, Berlin, etc) as well as outside of festivals for distribution under Sony's various platforms. We acquire in various stages (Scripts, finished films, promos, etc). Our group also does development and oversees projects creatively that we acquire during festivals and between festivals.
Position will assist with analysis of films, as well as analysis of all submissions to major film festivals around the world. By helping our executives with organization of various major film festival entries, the interns will gain a firm understanding of what it takes for an independent film to become successful. The interns will also gain an understanding of how our group purchases films for various territories around the globe.

Interns will additionally have the opportunity to review acquisitions materials (scripts, finished films, promos) and provide input on their insight on what works for acquisitions and what does not work. Interns will be integral in the acquisition preparation and process following Sundance, and leading up to Berlin, SXSW, and Cannes.

The intern will gain skills with regards to understanding how a film festival works, how films are submitted, what it takes to push along an independent film, and the deal making process associated with acquisitions of films. The intern will also understand how acquisitions of independent films can have great upside if performed intelligently, and if the deal is structured in a specific, efficient manner.

Interns will additionally learn why a script may come together again after it has been either passed on by the larger studios / producers, etc, and what it takes for an acquisition to get off the ground. Additionally, interns will have insight on how a high level business development / analyst office works for film, and what creative input is needed on acquired films.

Qualifications

The Spectrum Internship Program's summer session lasts for an 8 week period from June through August. All applicants must be in good academic standing and available for the entire session.

Intern should have a strong work ethic, be able to react quickly under pressure, have a keen eye for detail, and an understanding of the independent film world. Additionally, intern should be well versed with MSOffice, Filemaker, and have a genuine desire to go the extra mile with regards to reading scripts, preparing financial data related to deals, and asking questions with regards to the work assigned to them.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
